Our Favorite Things about Mr. Swope

How willing to work with students and adaptable he is.

His hard work and determination. Even when he was concussed for these past few weeks, he clearly made a strong effort to keep his students engaged in class.

His dedication to his students

Mr. Swope will always ask you how you're doing and whether you need anything!

The fact that he treats students like collaborators and equals, and the chill, awesome vibe he brings to his teaching, like its a collective journey as opposed to a mere lecture.

His casualness and humor

The balance of fun and learning he maintains in the classroom.

He is always ready to help us and is a great teacher!

His ability to teach people how to troubleshoot effectively.

His immense knowledge and ability to pass it on.

He's always so open to new things. He teaches courses that change every year, and he is constantly learning and teaching us new things. There are a lot of teachers who won't admit when they're wrong or don't know something, but he is willing to learn alongside his students.

Definitely his music choice when we are working during class

That he loves teaching all of his students.

He looks like Luke Perry. (rip)

His eagerness to engage the LM community and inspire. In addition to being a great teacher (better than many of my college professors), Mr. Swope is always looking to engage students in activities outside of class like CodeLM and volunteering to teach local elementary school students to code.

How he uses emojis as variable names.

He's super chill and makes everyone glad to be in CS.

The dedication and love he has for computer science and how he teaches it to as many students as he can.

He can't read marker. That or smokers row.

He's always been a fantastic teacher and has a great taste in music!

How easy he is to talk to and how he puts effort into what he's teaching and is genuinely excited about it. I am so grateful of all of the opportunities that he has given me and will continue to give all of his students.

His enthusiasm for Computer Science and his love for teaching students.

His sense of humor :)

His understanding and calming personality.

His unique drive to learn new subjects, like AI, along with his students, for his students. Also his music taste.

His enthusiasm and dedication.

He challenged me to think about problems in new ways while also making and he was always positive even when nobody had a clue what to do.

His work ethic and dedication to his student's success. Also his always calm and cool demeanor.

How relaxed he is.

His inability to spell.

His very chill attitude about everything.

That you really care about your students. For those that are struggling, you help them during Lunch and Learn or pair them up with other students. For those that want to learn more, you offer advanced courses, extra credit assignments, and fun events like hackathons and CodeLM. I really appreciate all of the opportunities you provide for your students, and they benefit greatly from it.

How he rarely tells you the exact answer, but instead leads you to it so that you learn it better.

His diligence and persistence to see things through (i.g. the new furniture, iPads, iMacs, etc.) to see his students maximize themselves and their potential.

His voice. He can lull a whole class into a deep attention. I also like how he makes us write in pencil and tries to use as little tech as possible in computer science class.

Mans is super chill.

Mr. Swope is such a positive influence and energy in the school and he does so much for everyone in it!

The fact that he's just the chillest guy AND is great at teaching compsci. Like what a dope teacher

He's a great teacher.

Dry sense of humor. Very funny.

His insane dedication; there's not a single other teacher at our school or any other who would write an email saying "I'm very sorry I won't be able to make it to class today, I was hit by a car and have a severe concussion. Anyway here's what you're going to do this week." Mr. Swope puts his students first even at the expense of his own health, which is something he probably shouldn't do but it's incredible all the same.

He always kept things light with a joke here and there. I also loved that he shared the same enthusiasm as the students to get out before the buses.

I don't know, but he's a pretty awesome person.

My favorite thing about Mr. Swope is how he is always happy to joke around with his students, and he takes part in their jokes just as much as they take part in his. He is as much a friend to his students as he is their teacher.

His pushes to further computer science education at LM

He makes everything fun (even learning)!
